Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minerals Development Department is committed to developing mineral resources through improved exploration, and utilization of these resources in a protected and environmentally sound manner to support and contribute to the Provincial exchequer as to the National Economy. The project's main aim is the sustained development of minerals-bearing areas via geological mapping of the Province.

The Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) has mapped approximately 30 percent of the covered area of KP to date. The remaining 70% of the province comprises mountain ouster rains with rich mineral resources, which need the immediate attention of policymakers. Being the custodian of the mineral resources of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Minerals Development Department felt the need to acquire a detailed Geological map of the whole province in order to facilitate the exploration of mineral resources.  Having this data at hand will enable Minerals Development Department to identify new ventures of mineral exploration that will be helping in attracting investment in the mineral sector of the province eventually resulting in uplifting the economy of the province.
