Commissionerate of Mines Labour Welfare

Functions

  • Collection of excise duty on notified minerals imposed under section 3 of the Excise Duty on minerals (labor Welfare) Act, 1967 by the Federal Government.
  •  Provision of welfare facilities to mine labors.

Excise Duty on Minerals

  • On dispatch of 11 Minerals @ Rs.5/- per ton
  • On dispatch of 50 Minerals @ Rs.3/- per ton

Mines Labor Welfare Schemes envisaged in the Act

  • Improvement of public health and sanitation.
  • The provision and maintenance of dispensary service in mines and prevention of diseases.
  • The provision and improvement of water supplies and facilities for washing.
  • The provision and improvement of education facilities.
  • The provision of transport to and from work.
  • The improvement of standard of living including nutrition, amelioration of social conditions and the provision of recreational facilities.
  • Grant-in-aid to a local authority or the owner, agent or manager of a mine of any scheme approved by the Government.
  • Grant-in-aid to mine owners who maintained dispensary services for the benefit of their mine labours.
  •  Housing Schemes.

  ACHIEVEMENTS

a. Health Facility

  • 12 No. mine labours welfare dispensaries established to provide immediate emergency treatment/first aid to the mine labours
  • Provision of free of cost medicine to the mine labours at the dispensaries.
  • Ambulance facility in mining areas in Distt. Swabi, Buner, Karak, Nowshera, Haripur, Lakki Marwat, Kohat for use of mine labours at the time of emergency.

    01 Nos. water supply schemes for mine labours at Bampokha District Buner near to completion.

g. Financial Support for Education of Disabled children of mine labours
